The Michael W. Krzyzewski Human Performance Lab is dedicated to the study of athletic performance and injury prevention. The K-Lab research team is comprised of faculty, staff and students for a variety of disciplines including, medicine and the basic sciences. The departments within Duke University and the Duke University Medical Center that participate in the on going research in the K-Lab include, but are not limited to the Department of Surgery, the Department of Community and Family Medicine, Doctor of Physical Therapy Division, the Department of Physical and Occupational Therapy, the Department of Biological Anthropology and Anatomy, the Department of Psychiatry, the Division of Internal Medicine, and the Durham VA Medical Center. Each of these departments play an integral role in the success of the K-Lab. The Departments of Surgery and Physical Therapy aid in the clinical aspects of the research projects that are being completed in the K-Lab. In addition, the faculty from the Department of Biological
Anthropology and Anatomy serves to aid in the understanding of the evolutionary changes that have occurred within the human body, which might explain some of the research outcomes.
In addition, to working with these various academic and medical departments, the K-Lab has a wonderful working relationship with the department of athletics at Duke University. The athletics department has allowed researchers from the K-Lab to use various facilities around campus included the indoor FieldTurf field located in the YOH Football Center and the basketball courts located in Card Gym for testing. In addition, the Duke athletes have been involved in various studies within the K-Lab in order to improve the understanding of both performance and injury prevention.
The K-Lab is always looking for new ways to integrate new disciplines and new ideas as we strive to "Study the World's Most Complex Machine."
